Ahmed Mohamed’s family sues Irving for $15 MILLION after making Texans look like Islamophobic racists

Ahmed Mohamed, otherwise known as the world’s most famous clock maker, and his family are suing the city of Irving for $10 million and Irving ISD for $5 million. The city and district were each sent a letter Monday, demanding money and an apology from the two entities, or else a lawsuit would be filed.[1]

The family wants compensation for damages Ahmed and his relatives claim to have suffered after the teen was arrested for bringing a “homemade clock” to school, which authorities saw as a hoax bomb. The story went viral on social media after a nudge from the Islamic activist group CAIR and a tweet from President Obama, claiming the incident reeked of Islamophobia.[2]

The whole debacle made Ahmed a bullseye for anti-Muslim conspiracy theories and forced the family to flee the country out of fear for their safety, claims the family’s lawyer. Since the incident, Ahmed has been heralded as a poster child for Islamophobia and a “genius inventor” by the mainstream media, despite the fact that all he did was take apart an alarm clock and fasten the components to the interior of a briefcase. He was even invited to the Facebook HQ by CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Science Fair.

Exaggerated claims and anti-Islam propaganda

All of these have the undertones of liberal hysteria and hypersensitivity. Mohamed most certainly seems like a bright kid, but praising him as a “genius inventor” is a hyperbole at best and a falsehood at worse. As the comedian Bill Maher noted, Mohamed didn’t invent anything. He removed the interior of a clock radio and placed it inside a briefcase-sized pencil box, which made the device look like a bomb. “This is like pouring milk on a bowl of Cheerios and claiming you invented cereal,” noted Maher.[2]

More importantly, while the school’s decision to arrest Mohamed was questionable, the district seems to be right in describing the device as a hoax bomb, or an object which is made to look like a bomb but is not actually a bomb. Every day, we are warned about terrorist threats, but when it comes to protecting schoolchildren, it’s labeled “Islamophobia.”

When questioned about the device, reported local news station WFAA, Mohamed behaved passive-aggressively and wouldn’t give clear answers as to why he brought the clock to school. “We attempted to question the juvenile about what it was and he would simply only say it was a clock. He didn’t offer any explanation as to what it was for, why he created this device, why he brought it to school,” said James McLellan of the Irving Police Department.[3]

A history of political stunts

To make matters worse, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, the father of Ahmed Mohamed, has a history of Islamic activism and taking advantage of the media. He has made two bids to run for president of his native Sudan. In 2012, when a Florida preacher threatened to burn the Koran, Mohamed agreed to take part in the mock trial leading up to it, seeing it as an opportunity to take his family to Disney World. In addition, he participated in a debate “Does Islam respect human rights?” against a famous “Islamophobe” (i.e., someone who criticizes aspects of Islam) in an effort to make a name for himself.[4, 5]

In other words, Elhassan has been fighting against “Islamophobia” for a considerable amount of time and took advantage of America’s politically correct, reactionary culture in order to promote his own agenda, which apparently includes seizing $15 million from American taxpayers before his next presidential campaign in Sudan. He even went so far as to state, “My kid was hurt and was tortured and arrested and mistreated in front of his friends inside of the school.”[6]

“If you see something, say something” is now a form of racism. The school’s cautionary principles be damned; Ahmed Mohamed is now adulated as a genius inventor by liberal apologists.

The moral of the tale? If you see a Muslim with a suspicious object, don’t speak too loudly. You might be labeled a racist and fined $15 million. The letter gives the city and district 60 days to pay or else face a lawsuit. Neither the city nor district have provided an immediate comment on the letter.[1]
